MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake High School senior Jarred Walker will try to make his mark as a Division I-A football player next fall at Washington State University.
Walker, a defensive back, chose to forgo a scholarship to Eastern Washington University and instead become a "preferred" walk-on at WSU, meaning he is assured of a spot on the team but will not receive a scholarship. EWU is in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-AA.
Moses Lake head coach Greg Kittrell confirmed Walker's decision on Tuesday via e-mail, and said Walker thanked the EWU coaching staff for their interest.
Walker was part of the Chiefs' 2006 and 2007 squads that reached the 4A regional playoffs.
