Jackrabbits power past Toppenish

TOPPENISH - Eric Martin and Skyler Perez proved to be the difference-makers on Saturday night as the Quincy Jackrabbits earned their third victory of the Central Washington Athletic Conference season, beating Toppenish 53-49.

Martin scored 15 points and Perez added 10 points as Quincy improved to 5-9 overall, 3-9 in conference. The Jacks had to withstand a 23-point outburst from the Wildcats in the fourth quarter. Toppenish got 17 points from Josh Schultz, 13 from Patrick Peters and 10 from Rosendo Aguilar.

Quincy, which used a 14-7 third-quarter run to lead 35-26, got nine points from Jesse Gonzales and seven from Jay Cedergreen. The Jacks are back home on Friday, hosting Ephrata at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday

Ephrata 82, Selah 55

EPHRATA - Coming off only their second loss of the season, the Tigers came to life, routing the Vikings at Marty O'Brien Court.

After a high-scoring first quarter in which Ephrata led 20-19, the Tigers took control.

"The key was, the middle quarters we really got after them on defense," Ephrata head coach Brandon Evenson said.

Ephrata (12-2 overall, 10-2 CWAC) got huge efforts from Daniel Simon, who scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Patrick Simon, who added 18 points. Landon Lange dished out eight assists and Ross Buchert chipped in seven rebounds.

Selah's Trevor Dallman scored 18 points and teammate Kyle Washut added 15.

The Tigers, who trail first-place Prosser by two games, face an important two-game stretch this weekend. They travel to rival Quincy on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then return home to play Prosser on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Ellensburg 48, Othello 44

OTHELLO - The Huskies lost for the fifth straight time in Central Washington Athletic Conference play as the Bulldogs broke free from a 36-36 tie entering the fourth quarter.

Jakob Scott paced Othello with 16 points and five rebounds, while Roman Pruneda added 12 points and five assists. The Huskies, however, shot only 34 percent (18 of 53) from the field.

Joe Jenkins led Ellensburg with 13 points, its only player in double figures. The Bulldogs had a 16-5 edge in free-throw points.

Othello heads to Selah on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Reardan 78, ACH 43

HARTLINE - The Warriors had a 14-13 lead after one quarter, but it was all Indians after that in a Bi-County League matchup.

Reardan went on a 25-8 spurt in the second quarter and an 18-7 run in the third, dropping Almira/Coulee-Hartline to 5-14 overall, 4-11 in league.

ACH got 10 points from Kyle Tucker in the loss. Brandon Boutain added seven points, while Garrett Jess, Cody Jess and Curtis Visker chipped in six apiece.

The Warriors finish the regular season at Valley Christian on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Davenport 71, Odessa 55

DAVENPORT - The Tigers had a chance to solidify fifth place in the Bi-County League, but succumbed to a 25-15 surge by the Gorillas to end the game.

Odessa (9-9 overall, 6-9 league) had balanced scoring in the loss, with six of seven players scoring. Travis Todd scored 13 points and Travis King added 12 points.

The Tigers will try to clinch the No. 5 seed for playoffs on Tuesday when they travel to Spangle and play the Liberty Lancers at 7:30 p.m.

Friday

Lind-Ritzville 48, Liberty 37

SPANGLE - Cory Whitmore scored 14 points as the Broncos took care of the Lancers in Bi-County League action.

Lind-Ritzville (16-3 overall, 12-3 league) trailed 9-7 after a period, but regrouped to take a 22-17 lead at halftime. The Broncos pulled away with a 17-10 fourth-quarter spurt.

Jamie Stevenson and Alex Pfeifer each scored 13 points for the Broncos, who close the regular season on Tuesday by hosting Northwest Christian, a 7:30 p.m. start.

Moses Lake Christian 62, Wilson Creek 17

MOSES LAKE - Adrian Moffet went off for 33 points as the Lions routed the visiting Devils in North Central League play.

Moffet was 14 of 27 from the field and 4 of 11 from 3-point range as Moses Lake Christian built a 31-12 halftime lead. Jesse Bassett had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Kameron Firouzi collected eight boards for the Lions.

Phillip Fuget and Kevin Trepanier scored five points apiece for Wilson Creek, which was held to seven points or less in every quarter.

The Lions travel to Sunnyside Christian on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Odessa 56, ACH 39

ODESSA - The Tigers had a strong start and finish against the Warriors in a Bi-County League matchup.

Odessa went up 14-5 after one quarter and sprinted away from Almira/Coulee-Hartline by winning the fourth quarter 16-7.

James Glenn paced the Tigers with 15 points and Travis Todd notched 11 points. Kyle Tucker was the Warriors' high man with 16 points and Garrett Jess chipped in 10.

Walla Walla 76, Moses Lake 53

WALLA WALLA - The Chiefs remained winless in Columbia Basin League action, falling behind early against the Blue Devils.

Josh Loera had a game-high 20 points for Moses Lake, but didn't get nearly enough support to offset the dominance of Walla Walla's three leading scorers. Gary Winston, Spencer Hessler and Michael Najera all had 12 points for the Blue Devils.

Scott Moberg had 10 points for the Chiefs, but leading post presence Michael Olaniyan had just five points and five rebounds. The Blue Devils shot 51 percent from the floor (29 of 57) and led 23-10 after one quarter.

The Chiefs host Walla Walla on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Wapato 56, Quincy 47 (OT)

QUINCY - The Jacks blew a four-point leading entering the fourth quarter and were dominated in overtime by the visiting Wolves in a CWAC contest.

Wapato got a game-high 21 points from Willie Blodgett to rally from a 36-32 deficit and score 24 of the last 35 points. Breck Webley paced Quincy with 12 points, Jesse Gonzales had 11 points and Cory Keller added 10.

Ellensburg 53, Ephrata 47

ELLENSBURG - The visiting Tigers never got going offensively, shooting just 23 percent in losing their second CWAC game of the season.

The Bulldogs overcame a 34-29 deficit entering the fourth quarter, getting 15 points from Ethan Rosser and 13 points from Joe Jenkins in the process. Ephrata's Patrick Simon led all scorers with 18 points and added eight rebounds. Daniel Simon added nine points, 14 boards and six assists for the Tigers.

Ephrata won the rebounding battle 42-24.

Grandview 68, Othello 64 (OT)

GRANDVIEW - Four Huskies finished in double figures, but it wasn't enough to earn an upset of the Greyhounds in CWAC play.

Othello overcame a 20-12 deficit to eventually force overtime. Gabe Cantu went for a team-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jakob Scott added 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Judah Gowan had 12 points. The Huskies were hurt at the free-throw line, missing 11 of their 28 attempts.

Grandview's C.J. Lopez led all scorers with 20 points, while teammate Marty Guillen added 19 points, seven assists and three steals.

Connell 59, Warden 32

CONNELL - The Cougars started slowly and finished slowly against the Eagles in an SCAC loss.

Connell led 16-3 after one quarter and finished the game on a 22-10 spurt. The Eagles got 19 points from Lance Whitney and 18 points and 13 rebounds from Spencer Hadley. Warden's Geo Flores scored 10 points, while leading scorer Ben Bisnett was limited to five.

The Cougars head to Kiona-Benton on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Bears are coming off an upset of top-ranked River View.

Columbia-Burbank 68, Royal 47

BURBANK - The Coyotes rolled the Knights in an SCAC East contest, getting a huge game from James Brown in the process.

Brown had a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds, helping Burbank compile a 30-23 lead at halftime. The Coyotes closed the game on a 21-10 run.

Blair Collins scored 16 points to lead Royal, while Michael Hebdon added 11 points, Colt Brown had 10 points and D.J. Solis grabbed seven rebounds. The Knights were only 3 of 15 on free throws, however.
