Huskies close CWAC duals with win

GRANDVIEW - After losing three of the first four bouts, the Othello Huskies wrestling team caught fire and roared to a 48-18 victory over the Grandview Greyhounds on Thursday night.

Grandview grabbed an early 15-6 before the Huskies won seven consecutive weights. The streak began with Jake Smith's forfeit win at 112 pounds, and 119-pounder Matt Jordan gave Othello the lead for good with a 15-2 major decision over Eric Dimas.

At 125, Nicoh Montemayor pinned Spencer Blanshan in 50 seconds. Reuben Lopez (130) picked up a 17-2 technical fall over Viano Perez, and Kiki Rebuelta (135) beat Garrett Walker in a 14-10 shootout.

At 140, Eddie Garza earned a 12-3 major decision over Eddie Galindo, and Amando DeLeon (145) finished out the Huskies' seven-bout streak with a 6-5 decision over Dalton Walker.

Othello's other winners included 285-pounder Michael Carmona, a winner by pin over Edward Acosta at 2:19; 160-pounder Tyson Alvarez, with an 18-4 major decision over Jose Garza; and 171-pounder Kevin Smith, who pinned Enrique Ochoa in 18 seconds.

Grandview's wins came from Adam Morales (189), with a pin over Jusdin Lynch at 1:28; Michael Hendrickson (215), who earned a 6-2 decision over Eddie Morales; Sergio Tinta (103), a winner by pin over Colten Rodriguez in 17 seconds; and Greg Gonzalez (152), who squeaked past Daniel Walker 7-6.

Othello, along with the rest of the Central Washington Athletic Conference, begins the district tournament next Friday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m. at Wapato High School.

Quincy 43, East Valley 27

QUINCY - The Jackrabbits took charge of their final CWAC dual against the visiting Red Devils by winning five straight weights.

Quincy's Tony Lee started the streak at 112 pounds, defeating Tanner Nestor 4-2. At 119, Carlos Magana pinned Jordan Vanderhoof at 1:48. Armando Herrera (125) followed with an 11-10 win over Mason Yates.

The Jacks stretched their lead to 34-16 as Manny Ybarra (130) pinned Zack Vanderhoof at 3:43 and Dan Somers (135) took out Shawn Stone in an 11-5 decision.

Quincy got a pair of victories from 189-pounder Michael Reyes and 215-pounder Max Melburn to grab an early 12-4 lead. Reyes pinned Nick Brindamour at 2:46, and Melburn did the same to Jacob Moser at 2:22.

The Jacks also won the final two weights of the night as Colby Melburn (152) downed Tim Logozzo 5-2, and Breck Webley (160) pinned Juan Ibanez at 1:12.

East Valley's Cameron Rainford started the dual meet with a 10-0 mauling of Kyle Arnall at 171 pounds. Joey Sparks (285) pinned Quincy's Lionel Barajas at 5:50, and teammate Konnor Hopkins (103) pinned Johnny Navarro at 1:07 to give the Red Devils another brief lead.

The vistors' other wins came at 140, where Doug Chartier got a 15-0 technical fall over Ben Horning, and at 145, where Andre Uribe pinned Ronald Sorto at 5:27.

Warden 76, Wahluke 3

WARDEN - The Cougars had no trouble closing their South Central Athletic Conference East Division dual meet schedule in style, hammering the visiting Warriors with 10 pins.

At 112, Franky Jimenez earned a pin over Javier Zapien. Jesse Guerra (125) pinned Octavio Ramirez at 3:37, while Robert Pruneda (130) pinned Elliot Carvo at 3:33.

Chris Kalous (135) downed Jesus Rodriguez at 1:26. Lupe Landeros (140) beat Omar Gonzalez at 1:07, Arturo Martinez (152) sent Kevin Aznaron packing at 1:11, and Scott Phillips (160) finished off Hermes Vasquez at 1:32.

At 189, Isaac DeLeon beat Clint Wiltse at 1:08, Joey Massa (215) locked up Sven Celano at 1:10, and Tony Martinez (285) pinned Warren DeVictoria at 1:37.

Kevin Tursio (145) and Chelsea Dinsmoor (119) won their matches by forfeit. Warden's only decision victory came at 171, where Dakota Scott beat Chris Cuevenwell 9-0, and the Cougars' only loss was at 103, where Carlos Gomez fell 11-8 to Austin Hudson.

Warden hosts the district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, beginning at 10 a.m.
