Organizational day held for Doolittle park planning

MOSES LAKE - General James H. Doolittle Park is on its way to being built in March and an organizational day is planned Monday to help it along.

Organizer Tara Childs said the daylong event starts with a site review with the Grant County commissioners at 9 a.m. at the park location, and then moves to Larson Heights Elementary School for the rest of the day.

Committee meetings are held throughout the day, such as the tools committee, volunteer committee, and construction captains. Childs said food is available at the event. More volunteers are needed to make the park become a reality.

Donations to help construct the park can be made at the location and contributions can be made by purchasing a fence post for the playground. There are 800 fence posts left to sell.

Fence posts cost $35 and anyone purchasing a picket by Feb. 15 gets their name engraved on the post. Over the weekend they are for sale at Lep-re-kon Harvest Foods, Food Pavilion, Safeway and the Columbia Basin Herald.

The evening party features traditional Mexican dancing and a video demonstrating how a playground can be built in five days will be shown.
