Moses Lake, Royal wrestlers drawing statewide attention

MOSES LAKE - In the latest rankings released on Tuesday by the Washington Wrestling Report Web site, the Moses Lake Chiefs come in at No. 8 among 4A schools.

The Chiefs received 48 points in the rankings, which are compiled by state wrestling guru Dave Gilbertson. Moses Lake ranked just ahead of No. 9 Tahoma and just behind No. 7 Snohomish.

Lake Stevens is the No. 1-ranked 4A team, followed by Kentwood, Graham-Kapowsin, University, Rogers-Puyallup and Central Valley.

Additionally, Washington Wrestling Report rated a number of Moses Lake and Royal wrestlers among its individuals to watch for.

In the All-Class rankings, which list the best wrestlers regardless of classification, three Royal wrestlers showed up on the list. Sam Villegas is ranked No. 3 at 145 pounds, with teammates Angel Ledezma fifth at 152 and Omar Avelar 10th at 135. Moses Lake's 140-pounder, Cody Hoiness, is ranked third.

The 4A weight-by-weight rankings feature six Chiefs, including Hoiness as the top-ranked 140-pounder. Tad Harman (285) and Gabe Guzman (130) are both ranked fourth in their respective weights. Spencer Fackrell is 15th at 189, Tyler Vela is 16th at 125, and David Peralez is 17th at 119.

Team and individual rankings for other classifications were not available at press time.
