Vehicle struck boulder, avoiding semi

WENATCHEE - The wife of Quincy Mayor Jim Hemberry was back home and healthy after she struck a boulder with her vehicle Monday afternoon on state Route 28, 11 miles east of Wenatchee.

Nanette D. Hemberry, 53, Quincy, was reportedly traveling eastbound on the highway in a 2007 Saturn Ion, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Nanette said there were boulders blocking portions of the highway.

A westbound semi reportedly crossed the centerline to avoid a boulder, the state patrol reported. Nanette reportedly moved toward the right shoulder to avoid the oncoming semi and struck another boulder.

She was transported by ambulance to Central Washington Hospital.

Nanette said she was bruised from her seat belt and air bag, suffered a chipped tooth and a sprained ankle.

She said her husband recalls the boulder was the size of a 55-gallon drum. Jim Hemberry was not involved in the collision.

According to the state patrol approximately $8,000 worth of damage was done to the 2007 Saturn Ion and it was towed from the scene.

No citations were issued.
