Trio of champions for Chiefs at Marysville tournament

MARYSVILLE - David Peralez, Gabe Guzman and Cody Hoiness all won their respective weight classes on Saturday, leading the Moses Lake Chiefs to a second-place finish at the Marysville-Pilchuck Premier Tournament.
Peralez was the champion at 119 pounds, finishing his run with a 7-1 decision over Mariner's Jesse Johnson. At 130, Guzman ended his title quest by downing Marysville-Pilchuck's Luke Shumaker, 12-1. At 140, Hoiness closed a dominating day by pinning Omak's Kenny McLean.
Moses Lake scored 188 points to fend off Arlington (181) for third place in the team standings. Snohomish took first with 223 points.
Hoiness continued a recent hot streak by pinning all four his opponents en route to the 140-pound title. In addition to Omak's McLean, he also pinned Arlington's Matt Hale, Ivan Stocker of Monroe, and Brad Perry of Snohomish.
Cameron Chlarson also had a good tournament at 135 pounds, advancing to the finals with a 10-9 win over Arlington's Nathan Shortt and a 19-3 blowout of Eastlake's Colby Jones. Chlarson lost the title to Stefan St. Marie of Snohomish, 16-5.
Several other Chiefs tied for third in their respective weights. At 125, Tyler Vela pinned Derek Kinsman of Stanwood and Chris Berg of Arlington, but dropped out of title contention with an 8-4 loss to eventual champion Kyle Komata of Woodinville. He took a forfeit win over teammate Ricco Moreno, who beat three opponents, to place third. Moreno was fifth at 125.
Also at 135, Seth Stones took third behind a 12-1 win over O'Dea's Chris Craft. John Silva (140) was third thanks to a pair of pins against Stanwood's Bobby Wharton. Parker Byington (152) grabbed a pair of decisions to end the tourney, beating Stanwood's Joe Eidsness 6-5 and Inglemoor's Joel Cruse 5-3.
Spencer Fackrell (189) tied for third with a 3-2 win over Burlington-Edison's Barry Wise. Tad Harman (285) did likewise, twice pinning O'Dea's Nick Verrall.
Derreck Johnson (103) tied for fifth, earning victories over Burlington-Edison's Enrique Medina and Peninsula's Stephen LaCheney. At 160, Josh Nielsen lost twice but placed sixth with a 16-1 victory against Ryan Mead of Marysville-Pilchuck and a pin over Peninsula's Chase Oswalt.
The Chiefs return to league play on Thursday, traveling to Yakima for a 7 p.m. double dual with Davis and Eisenhower.
Royal Rumble
ROYAL CITY - The host Knights had a pair of teams in action on Saturday, with their varsity scoring 197 points to place second and their junior varsity seventh with 97 points.
The Reardan Indians earned the team title by scoring 208 points.
Royal's Hernon Cortez (112), Sam Villegas (152) and Hector Ledezma (189) each won individual titles. Cortez took his title with a 5-3 overtime win against Goldendale's Jeremy Wolfe. Villegas pinned Caleb Ferch of Goldendale, while Ledezma pinned Pomeroy's Kent Jenkins.
Juan Esquivel took second at 119, losing his championship bout to Mabton's Eric Meza, 12-5. Teammate Pedro Lopez was third at that weight, finishing his day with a 5-2 win over Cascade's Jeremiah Key.
At 103, Hank Ellis reached the finals with a 5-4 decision over Wahkiakum's Ben Miles, but lost by pin to Wahluke's Austin Hudson to finish second.
Ethan Tonnemaker (112), Mitch Christensen (171) and T.J. Hunt (215) all took third, with Hunt beating teammate Lucas Warren 13-1 for his spot. Warren was fifth at 215.
Kris Rice (125) tied for fourth, beating Connell's David Montes, 11-4. Luke Tonnemaker (140) was fourth after pinning Highland's Samuel Sanchez, and
Jacob Christensen (189) also tied for fourth. Roman Trujillo took fifth after falling to Connell's Gerardo Avitia, 11-1.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline was also in attendance at the Royal Rumble, placing 20th with 15 points. Reid Ashley was the Warriors' highest placer, taking fourth at 215 courtesy of a pin against River View's Anthony Mendez.
The Knights host River View in a conference dual on Thursday at 7 p.m., while the Warriors wait until Saturday to travel to Kittitas at 10 a.m.
Ray Westburg Invitational
ELLENSBURG - Othello sent two wrestlers to the finals of Saturday's tournament at Ellensburg High School.
The Huskies placed sixth in the event, scoring 120 points. Quincy was also in attendance, scoring 35.5 points to place 14th. No individual results were available for the Jackrabbits. Kentwood was the team champion, scoring 267 points.
Othello heavyweight Michael Carmona won the 285-pound crown, and pinned Blake Nichols of Ellensburg in the championship match. At 130, Othello's Reuben Lopez came up one win short of a title, losing 9-8 to Ellensburg's Tait Tucker.
Both Othello and Quincy return to Central Washington Athletic Conference action on Thursday. The Jackrabbits head to Selah at 7 p.m., while the Huskies go to Toppenish at 7 p.m.
Warden 71, Okanogan 3
Warden 66, Oroville 16
WARDEN - The Cougars polished off a pair of blowout dual meet wins on Saturday at home.
Warden defeated Okanogan 71-3 as six wrestlers claimed forfeit victories. At 130, Robert Pruneda pinned Jovan Lopez in 1 minute, 31 seconds. Chris Kalous (135) followed with a 3-second pin of Andres Munoz, and Lupe Landeros (140) beat Ryan Kelly 10-3.
At 145, Kevin Tursio eked out a 14-13 decision against Jordon Stratton. At 152, Arturo Martinez belted Angel Nighla 17-1. Scott Phillips (160) pinned D.J. Mosies in 2:53.
Jose Gonzalez (171) continued Warden's hot streak with a 46-second pin of Garren Brown. Ivan Cuevas (215) sustained the Cougars' only loss, dropping a 7-5 decision to John Delap.
Warden also earned a 66-16 victory against the Oroville Hornets, with four of the wins coming by forfeit. Franky Jimenez (112) pinned Davis Castillo in 42 seconds. Tursio (145) pinned John Herrera at 5:25, and Phillips (160) pinned Bill Sykes at 3:28.
Dakota Scott (171) took just 41 seconds to pin Tyler Herrera, while Isaac DeLeon (189) wrapped up Zack Meirs at 2:56. Joey Massa (215) pinned Justin Rounds at 2:23, and Tony Martinez (285) beat Jesse Smith in 48 seconds.
Warden 64, Burbank 3
BURBANK - The Cougars had no problems dispatching the Coyotes in a South Central Athletic Conference East Division dual on Friday.
Josh Reyes (130) began the match with a 59-second pin of Victor Ramirez. Landeros (140) pinned Kameron Guajardo at 2:23, while Tursio (145) pinned Billy Vaughn at 1:43.
Phillips (160) pinned Zac Reisenauer at 3:44, Scott (189) pinned Caleb Wilcox at 1:16 and Massa (215) pinned Cameron Homer at 2:54.
Jimenez (119) got a 14-2 major decision against Earl Moody, while Jesse Guerra (125) had the only Cougar loss in a 2-0 decision to Trevor Morrison. Four other Cougars won by forfeit.
