Lady Huskies stretch win streak to six with weekend sweep

OTHELLO - It might be fair to call the Othello Lady Huskies the hottest team in the Central Washington Athletic Conference.
The Huskies won their fifth consecutive conference game, sixth overall, with an 87-33 destruction of the visiting Toppenish Wildcats on Saturday at P.J. Taggares Gymnasium.
Allison Walker led the dominating performance with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Five Othello players finished in double-figure scoring as Christine Kirkwood had 15 points and seven steals, Kylee Mollotte had 11 points, and Courtney Kirkwood and Marissa Juarez scored 10 apiece.
Othello left little doubt in the final result with the struggle Wildcats, going on a 26-2 binge during the first quarter.
The Huskies look to keep momentum going on Friday when they host Ephrata at 6 p.m.
Saturday
Moses Lake 72, Davis 40
YAKIMA - The Chiefs got a game-high 21 points from Carly Noyes, who reached the 1,000-point plateau of her career.
Moses Lake stayed in first place in the Columbia Basin League standings at 3-0, and blew the game wide open with a 27-1 first-quarter spurt.
Kelly Sutherland added 16 points, while Ann Noyes and Jordan Loera chipped in 12 apiece. The Chiefs shot 33 of 70 from the field while limiting the Pirates to 14 of 44 (32 percent).
Moses Lake is home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for a huge CBL showdown with the Richland Bombers.
Lind-Ritzville 43, Reardan 33
RITZVILLE - The Lady Broncos played stellar on both ends of the court, rolling to a 30-5 halftime lead and burying the Indians in a Bi-County League matchup.
Lind-Ritzville (11-3 overall, 8-2 league) stayed 1 1/2 games back of first-place Northwest Christian.
The Broncos got a huge game from Devon Killian, who scored a game-high 20 points. Laura Cain and Katlin Fowles added seven points apiece.
Lind-Ritzville plays at Valley Christian of Spokane on Tuesday, a 6 p.m. start.
Selah 69, Quincy 30
SELAH - The Vikings routed the Lady Jackrabbits in CWAC action, getting three players to score in double digits.
Rochelle Burke had 11 points and 10 assists to pace the Vikings, with Ashley Rison and Ashley Anaya scoring 10 points apiece. Dayanna Lopez had seven points for Quincy, which was missing leading scorer Tashia Zamarron.
The Jacks host the East Valley Red Devils on Friday at 6 p.m.
East Valley 69, Ephrata 30
YAKIMA - The Lady Tigers didn't fare any better in their CWAC matchup with the Red Devils, managing only 14 points in the first half and remaining winless on the season.
East Valley had all 11 of its players score, with Kendall Hull and Annie Martinez scoring 11 and 10, respectively. Ephrata's Abby Smith led all players with 12 points and Margaret Eisen added 11.
Ephrata hosts Grandview on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Northwest Christian 77, Odessa 30
ODESSA - The visiting Crusaders, who lead the Bi-County League at 9-0, put a hurting on the Tigers, who've managed just one league win thus far.
Northwest Christian jumped to a 22-6 lead after one quarter and held Odessa to single digits in all four periods. Odessa (3-8 overall, 1-8 league) got eight points apiece from Jordan Frederick and Corinne Kinney in the loss.
Odessa travels to Soap Lake for a non-league contest on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Friday
Othello 50, Wapato 49
WAPATO - It was far from easy, but the Lady Huskies kept their win streak going with a last-second comeback against the conference rival Wolves.
Courtney Kirkwood, who led the Huskies with 15 points, scored the decisive basket with 2 seconds left, rebounding her own missed free throws. Allison Walker added 12 points and Christine Kirkwood had 11.
Wapato got 15 points from Hayley Strom and 10 from Denise Smiscon. Othello rallied from a 26-23 halftime deficit.
Royal 66, Wahluke 29
ROYAL CITY - The Lady Knights earned their third South Central Athletic Conference East Division win, burying the visiting Warriors over the final three periods.
Wahluke trailed by only two after one period, but Royal assumed a 32-19 halftime lead and owned the second half with a 34-10 edge. Danni Callahan scored a game-high 22 points for the Knights, with Leslie Brown adding 13 and Katrina Werlinger scoring nine.
Callahan was 6 of 12 on 3-point attempts and added five assists, five rebounds and four steals. Maggie Leal had five points and eight boards, Tawnee Gonzales had four points and eight rebounds, and Kelcy Jansen dished out eight assists.
The Lady Knights travel to Kiona-Benton on Friday for a 6 p.m. start.
Lind-Ritzville 68, Odessa 12
ODESSA - The Lady Broncos had no trouble with the Lady Tigers, going up 30-7 at halftime and 53-9 after three quarters.
Devon Killian paced Lind-Ritzville with 12 points, Heather Whitmore scored 11, and Kelsey Arlt and Laura Cain both had nine. Odessa, which managed no more than four points in any period, got nine points from Jordan Frederick.
Toppenish 56, Ephrata 51
TOPPENISH - The Lady Tigers threatened to earn their first win of the season, but blew a 26-22 halftime lead to the Wildcats.
Toppenish, which got 22 points from A.J. Yarlott and 14 from Aracely Zuniga, outscored Ephrata 34-23 in the second half to win. Lexi Lange led the Tigers with 14 points and BreAnne Duff scored 13.
Ellensburg 79, Quincy 39
QUINCY - The first-place Bulldogs made life miserable on the Lady Jackrabbits from the opening whistle.
Ellensburg, which improved to 7-0 in conference play, got a game-high 19 points from star Kayla Standish. The Bulldogs led 23-9 after one period and erased any thought of a Quincy comeback with a 15-4 third-quarter surge.
Lesa Hearst paced the Jacks (3-5 overall, 3-4 CWAC) with nine points, while Dayanna Lopez and Colleen Knodell added eight apiece. Leading scorer Tashia Zamarron was held to seven.
Libery Bell 60, Soap Lake 32
WINTHROP - The Mountain Lions overwhelmed the Lady Eagles in an early-season test for North Central League supremacy, taking a 34-16 lead to halftime.
Soap Lake (5-5 overall, 2-1 league) got nine points apiece from Tanya Babak and Mercedes Franks, while Ariel Wernex added eight. Kylie Paluck paced Liberty Bell with 17 points and Korrie Bourn added 14.
The Eagles are home on Tuesday, hosting Odessa in a non-league game at 6 p.m.
Kiona-Benton 49, Warden 31
BENTON CITY - Warden got off to a slow start in both halves, and the Lady Cougars fell to the Bears in SCAC East play.
Kiona-Benton jumped ahead 13-3 after one period, and after Warden rallied to within 20-16 at the break, took charge again with a 13-5 spurt in the third period.
Kaitlyn Yamane just missed a double-double for the Cougars, recording nine points and 10 rebounds. Kelsey Garner scored eight points and Kim McPartland added seven.
Sara Vannoy finished with 18 points and 10 boards for the Bears, while Caitlyn Patterson added 12 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
The Cougars host Connell on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Wilbur-Creston 47, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 32
WILBUR - The Lady Warriors managed just nine second-half points and fell to the Wildcats in a Bi-County League decision.
ACH (8-5 overall, 3-5 league) trailed by only a point at halftime but didn't get many shots to fall over the final 24 minutes. Nikki Osborne paced ACH with 10 points and leading scorer Sarah Gloyn managed just seven.
The Warriors host Davenport on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
