tourney brings in over $2K

MOSES LAKE - More than $2,000 was raised to benefit student scholarships at the seventh annual Ryan Floch Memorial Basketball Games at Big Bend Community College.

The games were held Dec. 19, 2007, at DeVries Activity Center on the Big Bend campus. These games are a "home and away" series. Next year the games will be played in Odessa.

The Ryan Floch Memorial Scholarship fund is valued at nearly $20,000 and supports two Big Bend student-athletes each year. Current scholarship recipients are Anthony Johnson of Utah, receiving a $500 award, and Hugh Brown of Nevada, receiving a $1,000 award. Johnson and Brown are both members of the Vikings men's basketball team.

Floch was a basketball standout at Odessa High School and played for the Vikings from 1999 to 2001. Ryan and his brother Drew, a foundation scholarship recipient, died with their grandfather and a cousin in a fishing accident.

Donations made in Drew Floch's name go to the Big Bend Foundation Scholarship and are awarded to graduates of Odessa High School. Donations can be made to either scholarship by contacting the foundation at 509-793-2006.
