Bertha Anne Lewis

Bertha Anne Lewis was born Jan. 26, 1917, at Kelliher, Saskatchewan, Canada to parents, John and Martha (Koepke) Wrege. She died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at Regency Hermiston Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston, Ore., at the age of 90. Bertha was raised in the Okanogan Valley of Washington. She married George Lucas and they lived in Omak, where George operated an auto garage. After George's death, Bertha moved to Columbia Falls, Mont., where she met and married Walt Lewis, a Park Ranger. They moved to Moses Lake, where Bertha worked as a cook at a nursing home before joining her husband working at the U & I sugar plant. After Walt died, Bertha moved to Vancouver, Wash., for a while before moving to Umatilla, Ore., then to Irrigon, Ore., and finally back to Umatilla. She liked sewing, crocheting, R.V.'ing and was a member of 2 R.V. clubs. Bertha loved her companion, her black toy poodle.

She is survived by brother-in-Law, Jack Holeman of Okanogan, Wash.; three nephews, William John Stolz of Hermiston, Ore., Jerry and his wife, Joyce Holeman of Twisp, Wash., and Dale Holeman of Moses Lake.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, George Lucas and Walt Lewis; parents, John and Martha Wrege; four sisters, Helena Stolz, Emma Wahl, Hattie Wahl, and Elsie Holeman.

At her request, there will be no services held. Disposition was by cremation. A private family memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
