| January 4, 2008 8:00 PM

EPHRATA - Ephrata City Council member Tom Middleton announced his resignation at Wednesday's city council meeting, creating an open position on the city council.

Middleton, an Ephrata business owner, is resigning because he's moving outside city limits, he said.

His new home sits on five acres and will allow more room for his three sons to play, he said Thursday.

His resignation is effective Jan. 7.

He announced his resignation at the end of the city council meeting and immediate plans weren't announced on how the vacancy will be filled.

His term expires in 2011, according to the city's Web site. He's currently serving his second term.

"It was a pleasure to serve the citizens and it was a pleasure serving with other council members," he said.
