Margaret Lucile Horn Gustafson
Margaret Lucile Horn Gustafson passed away at her home, Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at 83 years of age surrounded by her family.
She and her twin sister Mildred were born of Norwegian immigrants, Henry L. and Dagny Horn, Oct. 26, 1924, in St. Maries, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her nine siblings: Rolf Bernard, Sverre Henrik, Reidar Olaf, Hazel Ingrid Thunborg, George Thorbjorn, Lawrence Leonard, Donald Osmund, Robert Harry, and Mildred Gladys Doolittle. Margaret had 21 nieces and nephews: Dolores Jean (deceased); Peggy Lou Fayer; Roland Bernard (deceased); Douglas Ira (deceased); Lloyd Allan (deceased); Darlene Joyce Rowland; Lawrence Edward Thunborg; Eugene Allen Thunborg; Donald Norman Thunborg; Barbara Louise; Eddie; Kathy; Donald, Jack Robinson; Carole Ann Butkus; Deborah Alice Martin; Trudy Ann Doolittle; John Charles Doolittle; Henry George Doolittle; Susan Janet Newman; Timothy Allan Doolittle.
Margaret grew up in St. Maries and Caldwell, Idaho. She married Leo Henry Gustafson in Pocatello, Idaho, July 31, 1948. In the early 1950s she lived in Alaska where Leo worked on the road to Valdez. Margaret and Leo moved to Moses Lake about 40 years ago. Leo passed away Feb. 20, 1985.
Margaret started working as a bookkeeper for her father's construction company. She held several types of jobs in the Moses Lake area including working in the local fabric store where many of her homemade outfits and crafts were on display. Margaret was proud of her Norwegian heritage and made several visits to Norway to visit many of her relatives; on one visit she made a side trip to Russia. She was very creative and enjoyed working on all her handicraft projects which she shared with family and friends.
Margaret was active in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Sons of Norway where she held several offices. She was also an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in many areas of the church including the office and nursery.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1020 S. A Street in Moses Lake. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in memory of Margaret Gustafson.
