Stevenson, Whitmore key Broncos' win at 2B state

Lind-Ritzville girls hammer Seattle Lutheran by 35

SPOKANE - Jamie Stevenson scored 16 points and teammate Matt Saetre had 13 points as the Lind-Ritzville Broncos opened up the 2B state boys basketball tournament on Wednesday with a 56-37 triumph over the Seattle Lutheran Saints.

The Broncos, who improved to 22-6 overall with the win, have a quarterfinal matchup tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Spokane Arena. Lind-Ritzville faces Riverside Christian, a 66-44 winner over Bear Creek in the first round.

The Broncos finished a low-scoring first half with a 23-16 lead, and the Saints continued to hang around in the third quarter, trimming their deficit to as little as two points.

But Stevenson scored 11 of his points after the half, and the Broncos outscored the Saints 20-9 in the fourth period.

Ryan Morgan's eight points led Seattle Lutheran, and teammate Brian Simmons added seven. The Saints face Bear Creek in a loser-out contest today.

Lind-Ritzville 49, Seattle Lutheran 24

SPOKANE - The same schools met in the girls' first-round on Wednesday night, and Lind-Ritzville had no trouble handling the Saints and moving into the quarterfinals.

The Lady Broncos (23-4 overall) take on Shoreline Christian or Mossyrock on Thursday for a spot in the semifinals, a 9 p.m. tip-off.

Lind-Ritzville scored 19 straight points during the first and second quarters, then ran away with things with a 32-11 second-half surge. Seattle Lutheran never scored more than seven points in any period.

Emmy Bouwman started the Broncos' early run with a 3-pointer and tied for the game-high with 12 points. Teammate Devon Killian also scored 12, with Laura Cain adding nine. Stephanie Antioquia had 11 points for the Saints.
