CB United teams complete season
MOSES LAKE - The Columbia Basin United 94 under-13 girls soccer team lost a 2-1 state quarterfinal match against Black Hills FC on Sunday at Kvamme Field.
The team, coached by Gary Klepec, took a 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick from Carly Goehner. But Black Hills got the equalizer with 15 minutes remaining in regulation, then won the match 3-2 in a penalty-kick shootout.
The United 94 girls were just one of five local teams involved in the Washington State Youth Soccer Association's Challenge Cup. Two of CB United's clubs advanced to the quarterfinal round, and another went to the round of 16.
The United 95 girls U-12 team, coached by Nick Wallace, dropped a 2-1 decision on Monday in Tukwila against Eastside FC. Trailing 2-0 after a pair of early goals, United rallied when Vanessa McNair hit Dani Crawford on a perfectly placed through ball, and Crawford buried her 18-yard shot.
The girls couldn't generate the tying goal, however, and were eliminated from the tournament.
In the U-14 girls division, CB United 93 upset a highly-ranked Spokane team to advance out of pool play, but lost 6-0 to a perennial power from Kent.
CB United 93 boys U-14 hosted Emerald City FC last Friday at Kvamme Field, with United needing a win to advance out of pool play. United took an early 1-0 lead but Emerald City fought back for a 1-1 tie, ending the season for United.
The United 94 boys U-13 squad was 1-2 in preliminary-round play and failed to advance out of pool play as well.
