Boys basketball recaps

WENATCHEE - One more win.

That's all the Moses Lake Christian boys basketball team needs to return to the 1B state tournament, after the Lions rallied past the Pateros Billygoats 55-52 in a North Central district playoff game on Monday at Wenatchee High School.

The Lions (12-5 overall) have a tough test on their hands in Thursday's district championship game, facing state-ranked Entiat (18-3) at 5:30 p.m., also at Wenatchee. The loser has another chance to qualify for state on Saturday.

Moses Lake Christian star Adrian Moffet led all scorers with 22 points and Jesse Bassett added 15 points. The Lions trailed 37-32 after three quarters, but closed the game on a 23-15 run.

"We kind of slept through the first half," Lions head coach Lonny Brown said. "(It was) a 4 o'clock game - we just didn't get off the bus ready to go."

Moffet and Tim Gjefle grabbed six rebounds apiece to lead the Lions. Kyle Richardson had 13 points for Pateros, with Brant Harvey scoring 12 and Terence Dietrich adding 10.

Brown knows his team will have to play at a high level in all areas to beat Entiat on Thursday.

"We have to control their three guards, who've done really well against us," Brown said. "We need to get to the foul line, which we haven't been able to do against them."

Soap Lake 60, Waterville 56

WATERVILLE - The Eagles closed North Central 2B League play on a winning streak, rallying from an early 12-point deficit to defeat the host Shockers.

Soap Lake's wins over Manson and Waterville moved the Eagles into a tie for the fourth and final district playoff spot. The Eagles will try to earn that spot on Wednesday when they go to Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m. for a loser-out game. The winner advances to the double-elimination district tournament, and plays Oroville on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Wenatchee High School.

Against Waterville, Soap Lake (6-14 overall, 4-8 league) got a game-high 19 points from Taylor Baughman, while Waterville's John Jorgenson and Javier Vierya scored 17 points apiece. The Eagles trailed 20-8 entering the second period but took over after that.

Lind-Ritzville 78, Wellpinit 61

SPOKANE - The Broncos took care of the Redskins in Northeast 2B district play, going up 42-17 at halftime and cruising from there.

Alex Pfeifer and Jamie Stevenson led Lind-Ritzville with 19 points apiece, while Cory Whitmore and Matt Saetre threw in 16 points each.

The Broncos (18-5 overall) are the No. 4 seed to the double-elimination regional tournament, and play top-seeded Northwest Christian on Saturday. The game takes place at Mount Spokane High School at 11:30 a.m.

PROSSER - The CWAC-leading Mustangs got off to a running start and buried the visiting Huskies early.
