Ephrata Heat blazing through competition

EAST WENATCHEE - The Ephrata Heat, a sixth-grade girls AAU basketball team, continued its season-long hot streak on Feb. 2-3 by winning the Eastmont Classic.

The Heat defeated teams from Wenatchee, Leavenworth and Entiat to reach the title game, where they dismantled the Eastmont Lady Wildcats 43-20. The victories improved Ephrata's record to 25-1.

Ephrata also won the Moses Lake Desert Classic on Jan. 26-27, defeating Sage Brush Hoops from the Tri-Cities in the title game, 30-27. The Heat also knocked off foes from Richland, Moses Lake and Spokane at that event.

On Jan. 11-12, Ephrata was the Yakima Invitational champion, defeating Moscow, Idaho, 26-20 in the final. The Heat took care of opponents from Yakima, Sammamish and Kennewick en route to the crown.

The team is coached by Mingo Scott and comprised of Shala Scott, Kendall Sage, Monae Hendrickson, Fredlynne Ham, Astride Ham, Kyna Jacobsen, Sarah Pheasant and Tish Conklin.
