Harry Malvern Smithwick

Harry Malvern Smithwick, 80, longtime Warden resident, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Private family graveside services were held at the Wapato Cemetery under the direction of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.

Born July 2, 1927, in Yakima County, Wash., to Malvern Hill and Bessie Marie Smithwick, Harry was the only boy in a family of five children. He has joined his sisters Mary Ann Raykovich and Mabel Faucher and is survived by sisters, Polly Westover and Judy Smith. He is also survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Smithwick and his daughter Marie Smithwick. He went to grade school in Harrah and attended Wapato High School. He was attending Washington State College when he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. In Korea he was a medic in a MASH unit. He returned to farm in Wapato until 1958 when they moved to Warden, where he farmed and spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of St. Martins Episcopal Church in Moses Lake. He was an elected Fire Commissioner for fire district No. 4 from 1969 to 1975. If desired, memorials, in his name, can be made to the Warden Volunteer Fire Dept., a service vital to rural life. He will be missed but always in our hearts.
