Dennis Lee Ferguson

Dennis Lee Ferguson, RMCS (SW), passed away on Dec. 28, 2008.

He is survived by his wife Judy Ferguson, son Jim Ferguson, daughter Jody Armstrong and her husband Kelly, son Daniel Ferguson and his wife Jeanette, daughter Nicole Ferguson, and his seven grandchildren, Brianne, Bryden, Kent, Dylan, Owen, Angela and Johnathan. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Ferguson, of Romoland, Calif., his sister Carol Miesen, of Solon Springs, Wis., Nancy Pierce, of Romoland, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Ferguson, of Romoland, Calif.

Dennis was born in Bassett, Neb., on Jan. 28, 1941. He graduated from Roseberg High School in 1960. He married Judy Kalin on Feb. 24, 1968. They raised four children and lived in several cities across Washington state. Dennis and Judy have lived in Moses Lake for the last 13 years. Dennis was a land developer and a home builder for more than 40 years in Washington state and Guam. He was also a master electrician.

Dennis enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 13, 1961. He proudly served as a radioman on several Navy ships and traveled the world serving his country. He was then honorably discharged from active duty and later reenlisted as an active reservist for many years until he was called back into active duty in January of 1991, to proudly serve aboard the USNS Comfort as a senior chief radioman during Operation Desert Storm. Upon his return from Desert Storm, he was involved in fleet training for several years. He received numerous awards and commendations throughout his Naval career. After 34 years of service, Dennis retired from the Navy with honors on Jan. 28, 2001. Over the last several years, Dennis has enjoyed being involved with restoring Naval museum ships by collecting necessary equipment from the Moth Ball Fleet.

Dennis has been an active member of the local Home Builders Association since its inception, and has served for a time as its president. He was one of the founding members of Roseburg Oregon’s car club, the Stray Angels, as well as an active member in Moses Lake’s classic car club. He enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars, and participating in area car shows.

Dennis was an honest, loyal, hard-working Christian man, who loved spending quality time laughing and enjoying life with his family and friends. He was dearly loved by many, and will be greatly missed.

Dennis’ funeral will be held at Moses Lake Assembly of God on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will follow at the Ephrata City Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.
