Louis W. Green

Louis W. Green, 83, of Othello, passed away at his home Dec. 19, 2008, with his family at his side.

Louis was born June 28, 1925, in Chester, Okla., to Willie and Emma (Smith) Green.

Louis attended school through the 10th grade. Unsatisfied with not graduating from high school, at a later date he completed his G.E.D. He enlisted in the United States Army Sept. 27, 1945. His military occupation was as a cook/baker. Louis received the World War II Victory and Army of Occupation medals. On Jan. 26, 1947, an honorable discharge was awarded to him for honest and faithful service to his country.

In 1945 he met Peggy Fuqua in Seiling, Okla. They were married June 14, 1948, in Texas. Their children Glenda, Jim, Bill and Starr were all born in Oklahoma. In 1956 they decided to load their pickup truck and move to Longview, Wash., where Louis had a job at a pulp mill. In 1957 they moved to Othello for Louis to work as a foreman for Gordon Hays Ranch. Louis began working for the Washington state highway department in 1966. After 20 years he retired.

He always had a farming operation which he continued after retiring from his state job. For many years his wife Peggy was his “right-hand man” on the farm. This last September, Louis drove his John Deere tractor the last round of baling hay for the 2008 harvest, then he retired. He was a member of the Nazarene Church of Othello. His work was cattle and farming.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peggy and his parents. Surviving Louis are his children Glenda Adkison, Clinton, Wash., James, Bill and Starr Green of Othello, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A final viewing and visitation will be held Monday between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Carver Family Funeral Home, 1100 E. Main St. Suite E, Othello. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be Tuesday at the Nazarene Church of Othello at 11 a.m. Vault interment will immediately follow in Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens, Othello.
