MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs girls basketball team rolled past the Wenatchee Panthers 71-37 Friday night to kick off Columbia Basin Big Nine conference play with a win.

The Chiefs, ranked third in Washington state by the Seattle Times, dominated the tempo of the game thanks to senior center Carly Noyes and sophomore guard Jordan Loera.

Noyes dominated inside the key on her way to 22 points and Loera kept the Panthers honest outside with her 16 points.

The Chiefs ran out to a 37-17 first half lead on their way to the conference victory.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said he knew winning their Big Nine conference opener would be difficult for the Chiefs.

“(Wenatchee) came in ready to play,” he said. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy.”

The Chiefs improved to 5-1 with the win over Wenatchee.

During halftime of Friday night’s game, Jacie Daschel of Discovery Ford presented a check for $1,720 dollars to Moses Lake High School.

The donation was part of a nationwide program from the Ford Motor Company to donate $20 for every local test drive beginning Oct. 18 and lasting through the end of December, according to the Ford Motor Company Web site.

Strophy said he was impressed with the donation.

“Any time we can get financial support from the community, it really helps,” he said.
