Lady Vikings sink Bison
MOSES LAKE — The Big Bend Lady Vikings basketball team used a smothering defense in the first half Tuesday night to help knock off the visiting Salish-Kootenai Lady Bison 92-67.
The Lady Vikings scored 34 points off of 26 Bison turnovers as Big Bend stormed out to a 49-31 halftime lead at the DeVries Activity Center in Moses Lake.
Megan Howerton led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 28 points and was 6-for-9 from behind the 3-point line.
Big Bend head coach Preston Wilks said his team played well Tuesday night.
“You can’t be too picky when you win by 25,” he said.
Although the Lady Vikings built an 18-point first half lead, Wilks said his team began to relax in the second half.
“I challenged the girls to come out at halftime and play with great intensity,” he said. “When you get out to a big lead like that you tend to relax a little bit and not play as hard. I think we kind of did that to be honest.”
After the Lady Vikings earned the home victory, Wilks said his team wanted to control the game offensively and defensively.
“We accomplished our goal and what we set out to do,” he said. “I can’t be too down on them. Anytime you get 92 points, you have to feel good about that.”
Tayler Anderson scored 15 points for the Lady Vikings and Angela Fales finished the night with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the win.
Alia Parker led Big Bend with 12 assists.
The Lady Vikings return to the court Thursday night when they travel to Edmonds Community College.
Opening tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
