MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs girls basketball team rebounded from a loss Tuesday  to knock off the Eisenhower Cadets 62-44 Friday night and improve to 4-1 this season.

The Chiefs built a 21-6 first quarter lead and Moses Lake never looked back in their non-conference victory over the Cadets.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said he was pleased to see his team get off to a quick start in the first quarter.

“Our first quarter is our best quarter,” he said.

With Friday night’s game not affecting the Columbia Basin Big Nine conference standings, Strophy said he wanted to work on his defensive press.

“(With it) being a non-league game, we worked on some of our press defenses,” he said. “We knew we could press Eisenhower. We couldn’t press Coeur d’Alene.”

After Moses Lake built a 15-point first quarter lead, Strophy said his team lost some of their intensity.

“When we took the press off the intensity we built kind of waned,” he said. “We haven’t developed that killer instinct.”

Moses Lake sophomore guard Jordan Loera led the Chiefs in scoring with 20 points and senior forward Carly Noyes added 16 points in the victory.

While Loera and Noyes led Moses Lake offensively, Strophy said junior Lacey Padilla helped guide the defense.

“She was a pretty good defender for us,” he said. “She made some things happen.”

The Chiefs begin Big Nine conference play Friday night when they host the Wenatchee Panthers at Moses Lake High School.

The opening tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Prosser 52, Othello 51 (Overtime)

PROSSER — The Othello Lady Huskies girls basketball battled the Prosser Mustangs to overtime on the road Friday night but couldn’t return home with the victory.

The Lady Huskies got 20 points from senior Allison Walker as Othello fell to their Central Washington Athletic Conference rival Friday night.

Zillah 68, Royal 35

ROYAL CITY — The Royal Lady Knights girls basketball team couldn’t stop the Zillah Leopards Friday night.

Zillah’s Rosebud Guthrie led all scorers with 19 points and the Leopards knocked off the Lady Knights at home.
