MOSES LAKE — Children at A.I.M. School and Gymnastics are dedicating the year to cancer survivors with the 2009 theme “STICK IT TO THE CAUSE.”

Half the proceeds for entry to Saturday’s Fun Meet Seasonal Spectacular will benefit Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. Additional donations to the foundation are accepted.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 416 S. Western Ave. Entry is $1 per person or $5 per family.

Owner Kortni Nelson said the theme is inspired by cancer patient Marsha Nelson, grandmother of her three daughters. Marsha Nelson lives in Idaho.

“She takes me to rodeos, and she comes and she gives us toys when we come sometimes,” said Hanna Nelson, 7.

She named several activities she gets to do when she visits grandma.

“We go get pizza and ice cream, and we play dress up, and we make cakes and cookies,” Hanna said.

The estimated 50 students at Saturday’s recital will be wearing black leotards designed with pink ribbons.

Hanna and her sisters Alizah, 4, and Piper, 2, have the name “Grandma Marsha” embroidered on their leotards.

Kortni Nelson said other students are also getting names embroidered on their leotards.

In addition to celebrating the “STICK IT TO THE CAUSE” theme Saturday, the students wear their leotards every Monday, at additional events including a “fun meet” in May, and at summer parades.

Kortn Nelson said Marsha Nelson doesn’t yet know about the theme. It will be revealed to her as a surprise when she visits for Christmas.
