Omak holds off Warden Cougars
WARDEN — The Warden Cougars boys basketball team couldn’t hold a first quarter lead as Omak rallied to knock off the Cougars 62-50 Tuesday night.
The Cougars ran out to a 12-10 first quarter lead before Omak recovered to slow down the Warden offense.
Omak took advantage of 20 second quarter points to pull away from Warden as the Pioneers took a 30-24 lead into halftime.
Warden head coach Wes Richins said Omak capitalized on its second quarter opportunities.
“They had a big second quarter to take a six-point lead into the half,” he said.
Omak continued their run in the third quarter as the Pioneers continued to pull away.
Omak took a 49-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
Richins said Omak continued to distance themselves from his Cougars in the third quarter.
“The had another big quarter in the third,” he said. “We couldn’t get closer than eight (points).”
While the loss dropped Warden to 0-2 this season, Richins said his team’s schedule is competitive.
“We have a pretty tough preseason schedule,” he said.
Geo Flores and Cody Shipley led Warden in scoring Tuesday night. Both finished with 19 points.
The Cougars return to the court Friday night when they host Cle Elum at 7:30 p.m.
