Lions leap past visiting Warriors with late run

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Christian boys basketball team capitalized on a fourth quarter rally as the Lions defeated the visiting Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors 71-50 Saturday night.  

The Lions took advantage of 22 points from Riggs Yarbro and 45 percent shooting from the floor to begin the 2008-2009 basketball season 1-0.

Moses Lake Christian is coming off of a successful 2007-2008 season in which the Lions advanced to the 1B Washington Interscholastic Activities Association boys basketball tournament.

Moses Lake Christian finished the tournament in third place following a 63-58 win over Entiat in the third-place game.

The Lions and Warriors battled to a 13-13 tie at the end of the first quarter and the Lions would ultimately take a 31-29 lead into halftime.

ACH responded in the third quarter when the Warriors overcame the two-point halftime deficit to tie the game 45-45 heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was all Moses Lake Christian as the Lions finished the game on a 26-5 scoring run and Moses Lake Christian knocked off ACH.

Isaac Murrell added 17 points, five rebounds and five steals in the winning effort. Yarbro led Moses Lake Christian with 11 rebounds and Adrian Moffet added 16 points and three assists .

Derek Isaac led the Warriors with 13 points and three assists while Kyle Tucker a earned the double-double. Tucker finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Moses Lake Christian returns to action Friday night when they travel to Odessa to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. The Moses Lake Christian girls basketball team will travel to Odessa Friday night to take on the Lady Tigers at 6 p.m.

ACH will host Kittitas Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The ACH girls basketball team will host Kittitas Saturday night at 6 p.m.
