MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs girls basketball team used a pair of 18-point victories over the  weekend to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Chiefs knocked off visiting West Valley of Yakima Friday 58-40 and defeated Eastmont 55-37 on the road Saturday to remain undefeated.

Moses Lake jumped out to an early 21-13 first quarter lead in their win over West Valley and never looked back.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said his team played well Friday night.

“We jumped out on top of them,” he said. “Our first half was great. The third quarter has been our Achilles’ Heel.”

West Valley cut the Moses Lake lead to nine points in the third quarter before the Chiefs rallied to take a 48-30 lead into the fourth quarter, Strophy said.

“Our goal is to keep opponents to 40 points,” he said. “We almost did that.

Moses Lake sophomore Jordan Loera led the Chiefs with 23 points Friday night and senior Carly Noyes added 18 in the win.

Noyes also had 10 rebounds to earn the double-double for Moses Lake.

Loera was 4-5 from behind the three-point arc and was 5-6 from the free-throw line.

EAST WENATCHEE — The Moses Lake Chiefs girls basketball team ran out to a 20-point halftime lead over the Eastmont Wildcats Saturday night to improve to 3-0 this season.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy was impressed how well his team began Saturday night’s contest.

“We jumped out to a huge lead,” he said.

While Moses Lake jumped out to a large halftime lead, the Chiefs slipped in the third quarter, Strophy said.

“(They) went on enough of a run to frustrate me,” he said. “So I had to call a timeout.”

The Chiefs recovered to distance themselves from Eastmont and earn the 55-37 victory.

With Moses Lake undefeated, Strophy said his team needs to improve if they wish to stay that way.

“We are 3-0, so I am pretty happy about that,” he said. “We still need to work on some things. We are relying too much on our talent.”

Moses Lake has won its three games this season by 16-, 18- and 18-points and Strophy said it is something to build on.

“We’ll take it,” he said. “I feel good about it, but not great about it.”

Moses Lake senior Carly Noyes added 15 points while fellow senior Shelby Kenner added eight points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort.

The Chiefs return to the court Tuesday night when they host No. 1 ranked and defending Idaho state champion Coeur d’Alene at Moses Lake High School.

Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
