Moses Lake lighted ag parade set for Friday

MOSES LAKE - Tractors aglow with Christmas lights, a color guard and horseback groups will be part of Friday's 14th annual lighted agriculture parade in downtown Moses Lake.
Some streets will close at 4 p.m. for the event, which includes the roasting of chestnuts at the Downtown Loan Company and marshmallow roasting between Real Nails and Miller's Fine Jewelers along Third Avenue.
Also, the Moses Lake High School Band Club will shoot photos with Santa in Sinkiuse Square as a fund-raiser.
Before the parade, a street party will be held between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with music and entertainment provided by a holiday trio jazz bands, A cappela singer Stephanie Rios and the Rock 'n B Cloggers, said Marianne Bondi, the Moses Lake Business Association's executive director.
Hot chocolate, hot apple cider, pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate, chili and barbecue pork sandwiches will be sold during the event.
The parade begins at 7 p.m., with floats leaving from the Surf 'n Slide Water Park parking lot near McCosh Park.
The parade route includes Cedar Street, Third Avenue, Balsam Street, Fourth Avenue and ends at McCosh Park.
The Zamboni from Moses Lake's Parks and Recreation Department will also appear in the parade, with members of the Moses Lake Youth Hockey Association following, Bondi said.
The parade's grand marshal is Sally Goodwin, the former executive director of the Moses Lake Business Association.
About 30 floats participate in the parade annually, Bondi said.
Some shops and restaurants will be open during the event, she noted.
"People have been doing it for so many years," Bondi said "It's just part of the whole holiday experience."
About 2,000 people attended the event last year, she estimated.
Parade divisions are modern farm equipment and tractors, old farm equipment and tractors, commercial farm equipment, Christmas decorated floats, livestock and youth.
