POST FALLS, Idaho - The Moses Lake Lady Chiefs girls basketball team got off to a fast start Tuesday night as they defeated the Post Falls Trojans 54-38 on the road.

Moses Lake ran out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as Lady Chiefs earned the 16-point victory to start the season 1-0.

The Lady Chiefs built a 35-17 halftime lead on the shoulders of senior Carly Noyes and sophomore Jordan Loera.

Noyes and Loera combined for 39 of Moses Lake's 54 points. Noyes led the Chiefs with 20 points and Loera added 19.

Noyes, who has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball next season for Washington State University, added 11 rebounds and two blocks in the victory.

Loera also added seven rebounds and six assists in Moses Lake's season opener.

Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said he was pleased with his team's performance.

"Carly dominated the inside of the game," he said. "Jordan handled their pressure really well and was able to penetrate and knock down some shots."

While the Lady Chiefs led 35-17 at halftime, the Trojans made a run in the second half to cut the Lady Chiefs' lead to nine points.

Moses Lake managed to rally in the fourth quarter to close out Post Falls 54-38 for the victory.

The Lady Chiefs shot 71 percent from the free-throw line and 48 percent from the field.

Strophy said his team played well for their season opener.

"Our shooting percentage is where it needs to be," he said. "It was really nice for the first game."

Post Falls came into Tuesday night's match up with Moses Lake ranked in the Idaho state top-5. Their only loss prior to Tuesday came at the hands of top-ranked Coeur d'Alene.

The Lady Chiefs will host Coeur d'Alene Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

Moses Lake returns to action Friday night when they host the West Valley of Yakima Rams at Moses Lake High School.

Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
