Warriors win academic award

COULEE CITY - The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors football team finished the 2008 season with another state championship.

The Warriors didn't win their championship on the gridiron this season - they won it in the classroom.

ACH claimed the 1B Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) football academic state championship with a 3.620 team grade point average.

Warriors head coach Brandon Walsh said he was impressed with the award.

"It's pretty cool," he said. "I am always impressed with kids who do well in the classroom and on the field."

Walsh said his team worked diligently this season for ACH.

"They put a lot of work in the weight room and on the football field," he said. "Then the took care of it in the classroom."

Each season ACH sends an application to the WIAA for the academic state championship, Walsh said.

The ACH Warriors will accept the award during halftime of the WIAA 1B state football championship this weekend in Tacoma.

Walsh said he is proud of his team's dedication this football season.

"We ask a lot of them," he said. "They put it together and took care of the more important things.
