Moses Lake tips off season in Yakima

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake boys basketball wrapped up their preseason Monday night in the cozy confines of the Moses Lake High School gym with the preseason jamboree.

The Chiefs are coming off of a 5-15 season in which they finished 2-10 in Columbia Basin Big Nine play.

Moses Lake officially begins the 2008-2009 basketball season Dec. 5 on the road in Yakima at the West Valley Rams.

With their first game of the season on the road, head coach Rolland Hansen said his team is dedicated.

"They are coming together well," he said. "They are playing together well and they are working hard. They have given it every effort."

While the Chiefs are working to improve on last season, Hansen said his team still has a ways to go.

"They (play) well at times," he said. "Overall, we have a lot of work to do."

Hansen said the Big Nine conference is difficult and his team will have to play near-perfect basketball to compete.

"We are going to have to play really well as a team," he said. "We don't have a lot of experience."

Although the Chiefs may not have experience, they are united.

"The team is going to have to come together to compete," he said. "The team concept is going to be very important for us this year."

Hansen said the success of the season depends on the team as a whole.

"These guys have come together and they are meshing real well," he said. "They could surprise some people."
