Donald E. Boruff

Donald E. Boruff, 75, beloved husband and father, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee following an extended illness. Donald was born in Ephrata, May 1, 1933, to F.F. “Slats” and Calista Boruff where he and his family have been lifelong residents of the Quincy/Ephrata area. After graduation from high school, Donald served two years in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge. On Nov. 1, 1961, Donald married Bonnie V. Butcher in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Donald and Bonnie made their home on the family farm in Quincy whem Donald worked as a farmer his entire life with his father Slats.

In his spare time, Donald’s passion was found in his self-taught love of music.

Donald was a very talented musician and was a member of the band, the 49’ers. Donald played many instruments which included the steel guitar, lead guitar, fiddle and the mandolin. His family has very fond memories of the music talent he possessed and how he loved to share it with everyone around him. Over the years Donald made many friends and was loved and respected by all who knew him. His gentle spirit, and his love for family and friends was a contagious gift he gave to many.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie, his two children, Kevin Boruff, Quincy, Angela Boruff, Ephrata, and two stepchildren, Terry (Patty) Robertson, Red Bluff, Calif., and Sandra Langford-Harbolt, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Nephews, Randy Boruff, Ephrata, and Patrick Boruff, Soap Lake, sister-in-law, Betty Boruff, Ephrata, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, F.F, “Slats” and Calista Boruff, his brother Clarence “Buster” Boruff, and his nephew, Thomas “Tom” Boruff.

A memorial service in celebration of Donald’s life will be held at 2 p.m Friday, Aug. 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ephrata with Pastor Chet Dorsey officiating.

Arrangements are in direction of Nicoles Funeral Home, Ephrata.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society to aid in cancer research.
