Fire contained Sunday

MOSES LAKE - A wildfire, between 500 and 600 acres in size, burned west of Potholes State Park, approximately 10 miles southwest of Moses Lake during the weekend.

The fire began on state Fish and Wildlife property Friday, according to Kyle Foreman of Grant County Emergency Operations Center.

The fire burned an area of sage brush and grass in a sparsely inhabited area, which was providing difficulties for fire equipment to access due to the sandy terrain in that portion of the county, Foreman stated.

The fire did not threaten any homes and no injuries or evacuations were reported, Foreman stated.

The incident commander, Grant County Fire District 10 Chief Brian Evans, stated the fire was contained Sunday night and resources on the scene were mopping up hot spots.

Resources from Grant County Fire Districts 10, 11, 5, 3, and 13, as well as from the Hanford Reservation, worked together in extinguishing the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
