MOSES LAKE - An electrical transformer malfunctioned at a city well house causing the service panel to burn Friday in Moses Lake.
The Moses Lake Fire Department responded to the well house along Road N, Fire Chief Tom Taylor said. It appears there was an electrical shortage to the transformer causing the service panel to burn, he said.
Grant County PUD personnel arrived at the scene to turn off power to the service panel so a firefighter could spray a small amount of water on it to prevent it from igniting, Taylor said.
There was a potential hazard at the well house, he said. A 500-gallon container of chlorine was inside the facility. There was a separation wall between where the fire happened and where the container was located, keeping firefighters out of danger, Taylor said. The damage was limited to the transformer and service panel.
