Redal plays at home
Former Chief suits up for AppleSox
MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake High School graduate and Wenatchee AppleSox outfielder Curran Redal is leaving Tuesday for Liberty University in Virginia, but that did not stop him from taking the field at Larson Playfield in the Moses Lake Pirates' home finale Thursday.
While Redal has spent the summer playing baseball for Wenatchee, Redal said he is excited to play in his hometown before leaving for Virginia.
"It's real nice," he said. "I have always liked the area, so it is a good place to play."
Redal has been playing baseball at Wenatchee Valley College the past two years, and is excited for the opportunity to play baseball for Liberty University.
"It's a good division one school," he said. "They have a good baseball program and it is nice to go down there with someone you are comfortable with."
Redal will attend Liberty University with Wenatchee Valley College and AppleSox teammate Zane Bator.
Redal is excited for the opportunity to play collegiate baseball at its most competitive level.
He said he credits the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League for helping him prepare for that opportunity.
"It is a good-wood bat league," he said. "There are a lot of good coaches and competition around here that will keep you sharp for the next year. It's kind of like a minor league atmosphere."
Playing for the AppleSox this summer has helped prepare Redal for the transition to Liberty University next season, he said.
"It's about the level you need to stay competitive," he said. "It is something that keeps you sharp for next year."
