People caused fires in Soap Lake
Fires under investigation
SOAP LAKE - Two fires reported along Division Street in Soap Lake are under investigation.
The fires were caused by people, possibly juveniles, Grant County Fire Marshal Bruce Gribble said Thursday. How the fires were started remains unclear.
The first fire was reported on Tuesday on the east side of the roadway. It burned between a half acre and one acre of sagebrush and cheat grass, Soap Lake Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Anthony Wolf said. Grant County Fire District No. 13 assisted.
The second fire was reported on the west side of the roadway near the first fire but on Wednesday night, Gribble said. It burned no more than a quarter-acre of sagebrush and cheat grass.
Grant County Fire District No. 7 responded to the Wednesday fire.
The fires are near a bike path that runs through the fields, Gribble said. The bike path prevented the fire from moving further.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported at either fire, Wolf said.
Anyone with information about either fire can contact the fire marshal's office at 509-754-2011 or fire district no. 7 Fire Chief Kirk Sheppard at 509-246-0321.
