MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Golf and Country Club hosted the eighth annual Duel in the Desert Golf Tournament Saturday as golfers from around the Columbia Basin took to the links for the Grant County Economic Development Council's yearly fund raiser.

Internet search engine Yahoo!, which has a data storage center in Quincy, was the title sponsor for the 2008 event.

Yahoo! Vice President of Operations Kevin Timmons was on hand to participate in the 18-hole tournament and represent Yahoo! in its third year of sponsoring the event.

"I love this course," Timmons said. "It's great to play in a desert setting. This is our third year as the title sponsor and we support the efforts of the Grant County EDC."

Playing along with Timmons was State Representative Bill Hinkle who was out at the course for a day of golf and showing support for the community.

"Winning isn't what this game is about," Hinkle said. "It's just a beautiful day to play 18 holes."

Many of the holes were sponsored by local businesses and had additional games at each hole.

One tee box had a marshmallow drive competition where participating golfers could attempt to drive the candy as far as possible with a golf club.

Saturday was perfect for a round of golf, said Moses Lake Golf and Country Club's Director of Golf Mike Eslick.

It's beautiful out today," he said. "Nice temperatures and just a slight breeze."
