MOSES LAKE - Construction for a new 117,000 square-foot Lowe's store in Moses Lake is moving along on schedule, store officials said this week.

The home improvement store on Yonezawa Boulevard near Interstate 90 and state Route 17 is expected to open in mid to late October, said Chris Ahearn, Lowe's vice president of public relations. About 175 new jobs will be created when the store opens.

Lowe's spokesperson Karen Cobb said most of the positions will be filled by hiring people from the Moses Lake area.

Lowe's opened a hiring office for interested applicants at the Holiday Inn Express on East Kittleson Road in Moses Lake. The hiring office's hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People can also learn more about the company online and submit an application by going to Lowes.com/careers.

"We're certainly looking for employees who are first committed to outstanding customer service," Cobb said.

She added that previous retail and home improvement are also a plus when applying.

She declined to elaborate on wages paid at the new store, but did say Lowe's offers competitive wages ranging from entry level to advanced positions.

Between 75 to 80 of the positions will be full time, but there will be medical, dental, prescription drug and vision benefits for both full-time and part-time employees, she said. There's also an employee stock purchase and 401-K program, she added.

The Moses Lake Lowe's is the largest of the store's two prototypes, which are adjusted to serve different market sizes.

The smaller-format store is about 94,000 square feet, she said. The Moses Lake store will also have about 31,600 additional square feet set aside for a garden center, she said.

The garden center will offer a selection of flowers, bushes, trees and garden supplies tailored to the state's climate and atmosphere, Ahearn said. About 40,000 products will be carried in the store, she added.

Other Eastern Washington Lowe's stores are located in Wenatchee, Pasco, Kennewick and Union Gap.

In Moses Lake, Brian Burley was selected to work as the new store's manager and Shelly Hanson will be the store's human resources manager, Cobb said.
