Daniel A. Verhey

Dan Verhey, 73, of Royal City passed away at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after a brief but gallant fight with kidney cancer on Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

He was born in Sunnyside, attended Marquette High School and went on to play football at WSU. Dan was well known as a teacher, athletic director and state champion coach for Royal City High School in wrestling and football. He retired from teaching and athletics to manage his farm and “Famous Peach Orchard” on Royal Slope. He is survived by his wife Sheila Verhey, children: Steve Verhey of Ellensburg, John Verhey of Wrangell, Alaska, Paul Verhey of Royal City, Peter Verhey of Everett, Pat Verhey of Ephrata, Heather Verhey-von Stein of Lilliwaup and Daniel Verhey of Ritzville plus many grandchildren and extended family.

Memorial services will be held in Royal City at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. Donations to Sacred Heart Medical Center Oncology are appreciated.
