51st Annual Dick Kelly Youth Day Parade set for Saturday

MOSES LAKE - Ball players from three youth leagues celebrate the opening of the season with a parade and ceremonies at Larson field Saturday.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Dogwood and Third Avenue, near the skate park, then moves down Third Avenue and turns right on Alder Street then to Fourth Avenue and ends at the Surf 'n Slide Water Park.

The opening ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. at Larson field. There will be an invocation, pledge of allegiance by the 2008 Miss Moses Lake court, flag presentation by the Girl Scouts, the national anthem sang by the 2008 Junior Miss court and the presentation of a plaque to John Jeninga.

Jeninga was nominated by Little League board as the grand marshal for his support in youth and adult sports, according to organizer Lori Moholt-Philips .

"The youth in our community have benefited tremendously from his contributions," Moholt-Philips stated.

After the presentation, there will be summary presentations of youth baseball and softball programs involved in Cal Ripken, Little League, Columbia Basin Girls Softball. Teams will be hand for the ceremony in there uniforms.

"It will be a rainbow of color," Moholt-Philips said.

Games start at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Larson and Lauzier fields, and Lakeview and Knolls Vista elementary schools.
