Frederick Joe Hardenburgh

Frederick Joe Hardenburgh died on April 11, 2008, at Sunbridge Care Center in Moses Lake as a result of complications from Diabetes and Kidney Disease.

Fred was born in Omak, Wash. on June 6, 1932, to parents Joe T. and Doris (Allender) Hardenburgh. Fred graduated from Oroville High School with the class of 1950. He attended both the University of Washington and Washington State University. Fred joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served with the 7th Armored Division as a Finance Clerk for three years. In 1952 he married Sydney Forney. Returning to Oroville after his Army service, he, along with Walt Hart, established Hart & Hardenburgh Insurance Agency. In 1958 he established Oroville Realty, which he operated until 1990. During these years he served on the Oroville School Board and the Bishop's Committee of Trinity Episcopal Church. In 1990 he joined the staff of Ranch & Home Real Estate in Moses Lake, retiring in 2004. Fred was a devoted sports enthusiast, having played football and baseball. He played town team baseball into his 30s. He attended the Super Bowl in Miami, The Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga., the NCAA Final Four in Albuquerque, two World Series, and the Hawaiian Open Golf Tournament several times. He threw out the first pitch in the Mariners first ever playoff game in 1995. Fred was an avid trap Shooter. He collected many friends and trophies while following the circuit. It took 55 years, but Fred finished visiting all 50 U.S. states in 2006. He visited both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Football Hall of Fame as well. Fred was a member and Past Master of Aurora Lodge #201 Free and Accepted Masons, The Scottish Rite, The El Katif Shrine, Spokane, and the Joe R. Hooper Post #209 of the American Legion, Moses Lake. Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sydney; his four daughters, Robin (Bob) Hanson, Alison (Harold) McCoy, Lindsey (Wayne) Asmussen, and Elizabeth (Jeff) Hafter and his five grandchildren, John and Tom Hanson, Joe and Lauren Asmussen, and Sophie Hafter. He is also survived by his sisters Roberta (Robert) Campbell and Marilyn (Dennis) Wilder. He was preceded in death by his only son Joseph T. Hardenburgh in 2001, his parents Joe and Doris, and his nephew Monte Nelson. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Oroville.
