Seniors, disabled may qualify for lower taxes

GRANT COUNTY - Property taxes for Grant County homeowners and landowners are due by April 30.

People have the chance to pay at least half of their taxes by April 30 if the tax amount is over $50 for each parcel, said Grant County Treasurer Darryl Pheasant on Tuesday.

Senior citizens and disabled people may qualify for reduced taxes, but any reductions depend on income amounts, he said. For more information about tax exemptions or other questions, call 509-754-2011, ex. 303.

If taxpayers aren't able to pay half their taxes by Oct. 31, they must also pay 1 percent interest per month.

A 3 percent penalty will be added to taxpayers' statements in June in addition to the 1 percent monthly interest, he said.

The treasurer's office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will have extended hours from April 28 to April 30 by opening during the noon lunch hour.

Payments made by check can be mailed to the Grant County Treasurer, PO Box 37, Ephrata, 98823 and must be postmarked by April 30 to meet the initial payment deadline.

Cash payments need to be brought to the treasurer's office and credit cards are not accepted.
