| April 3, 2008 9:00 PM

Raymond L. Landingham was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Yakima to Loran and Viola Landingham. While attending West Seattle High, Ray as a teenager pursued his love for flying and soloed his first aircraft, a piper cub with his mother in the backseat. He later continued his education attending the University of Washington. In 1953 Ray served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean War as a crew chief on P-51 Mustangs.

In 1956 Ray settled in Juneau, Alaska pursuing a career in aviation as a commercial pilot and owner of the charter airline Channel Flying. In January of 1962 Ray and Nancy were married and spent the next 35 years raising a family in Juneau.

In retirement, Ray loved spending time with his family, fly fishing, flying his remote-controlled airplanes and golfing. He will always be remembered for his kind words, wonderful sense of humor and willingness to help others. Ray left this world in peace, after a short battle with cancer.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Conley) Landingham, his children Jannine (Eldon) Swingler and James Burns of Aberdeen, S.D., Traci (Mark) Welborn of West Jordan, Utah, Shannon (Bruce) Lockwood of Tehachapi, Calif., and Loran (Tami) Landingham of Juneau, Alaska, 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, his brother Walter (Chris) Landingham and his sister Doris (Bob) Thurow.

Ray was preceded in death by his father Loran Landingham and mother Viola Landingham, his brothers Elmer Landingham and Lawrence (Sonny) Landingham.
