Wenatchee continues downward spiral for Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - Shelby Gonzales had 13 kills and 24 digs, but it wasn't enough to save the Moses Lake volleyball team from a five-game loss to the visiting Wenatchee Panthers on Thursday night.

The Chiefs valiantly rallied from a two-games-to-none deficit before falling in game five. The Panthers' 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 27-29, 15-11 win gave Moses Lake its sixth straight defeat to open Columbia Basin League action.

Moses Lake's Becky Madrishin had 12 kills and four blocks, while teammate Shayla May dished out 30 assists and picked up 19 digs.

The Chiefs go on the road in search of their first CBL win next Tuesday, traveling to Pasco for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Wilson Creek 3, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 0

WILSON CREEK - The Devils had few problems in dispatching the Warriors, winning 25-15, 25-16, 25-10.

Ksenja Fredere had a team-high seven kills and three blocks for Wilson Creek. Holly Wilson added six kills and two blocks, while Jackie Treat had a superb night at the service line, going 18 for 18 with eight aces.

Wilson Creek goes to Mansfield next Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tip-off.

Othello 3, Quincy 0

OTHELLO - Allison Walker's 10 kills, 10 digs and five aces paced the Lady Huskies' in their 25-13, 25-7, 25-14 victory over the visiting Jackrabbits.

Othello's Justine Villareal chipped in three kills, five aces and nine assists. Kylee Mollotte served 9 for 9 with three aces, and added six digs, two kills and two blocks. Also contributing for the Huskies were Olivia Lopez (8 for 8 serving, four digs) and Natalie Morgan (three kills).

Quincy's Manda Brindle went 9 for 9 from the service line with one ace, and added one kill and six assists. Rachel Tobin was 5 for 5 serving with one ace and one block.

Both squads continue CWAC play next Tuesday. Quincy goes on the road to face the Toppenish Wildcats at 7 p.m., while Othello stays at home to entertain the Prosser Mustangs at 7 p.m.

Ellensburg 3, Ephrata 0

EPHRATA - The Lady Tigers had a difficult time with the visiting Bulldogs in a Central Washington Athletic Conference contest, falling 15-25, 16-25, 18-25.

Ephrata's Britney Ratigan picked up seven kills, nine digs and five aces in defeat. Teammates Greer Monson (three kills, three blocks) and BreAnne Duff (five digs, eight assists, one ace) also played well.

The Tigers continue a three-game homestand next Tuesday, hosting the Grandview Greyhounds in a CWAC match at 7 p.m.

Lind-Ritzville 3, Valley Christian 0

SPOKANE - Stephanie Steinberger led the Lady Broncos with eight kills, four blocks and three aces as they knocked off the homestanding Panthers 25-15, 25-17, 25-19.

The Broncos also got big performances from Heather Hunt (20 assists, three aces), Danielle Sackmann (17 digs) and Laura Cain (eight kills).

Soccer

Warden 4, Goldendale 0

GOLDENDALE - Thanks to a hat trick from Barbara Horta, the Lady Cougars cruised past the Timberwolves for an SCAC victory.

Maria Woestmann put Warden out front in the 11th minute off an assist from Diana Rolon. Horta scored her first goal just two minutes later, then added another in the 17th minute off a Rolon helper.

Warden's defense controlled things from there, limiting Goldendale to one shot on goal. Horta finished her hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute. Warden had 20 shots on goal, forcing the Timberwolves' keeper to make nine saves.

The Lady Cougars travel to Cowiche on Saturday, facing the Highland Scots in an 11 a.m. league match.
