Creativity runs in Wade's family

MOSES LAKE - Ruth Wade is a busy person.

The new owner of the Harmony Home Decor store, located at 220 W. Third Ave., also has a full-time job at Moses Lake High School, her own janitorial service and she and husband Del have three children, aged 16, 13 and 8.

"I just don't know how to slow down, I don't think," Wade said with a smile. "I've been called a jack of all trades."

How does she maintain her balance in the midst of all that?

"Long hours and take one thing at a time," she said.

The Wades took over the Moses Lake business June 1. They had heard about its availability from friends who are also business owners on Third Avenue, and after a few months of deliberation, decided to go for it.

A resident of Moses Lake since she was in 11th grade - husband Del is a lifelong resident - Wade said she has always liked to be creative.

"My whole life," she said. "My whole family's creative."

That's one of the reasons they decided to take over the business.

The Wades purchased "a few new things" for the business, and expanded their hours to be open Monday and now until 6 p.m.

Business has been good, with a positive response from the clientele, although Wade allowed some days are slow and others are super busy, an experience common amongst Third Avenue merchants, she said.

Because of the look of the business, some customers come away with the impression the business is highly priced, Wade said, although she tried to keep her prices as low as possible. The same holds true for her store's blinds area, she said, with prices comparable to other businesses in town.

Eventually, Wade said, she would like to expand the business into a larger building.

The business is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
