Rotarians donate van to Moses Lake Senior Center

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Senior Center received a new set of wheels Wednesday from Grant County rotary clubs.

A Meals on Wheels shuttle van was donated to the senior center from the Ephrata Rotary Club, Moses Lake Rotary Club and the Moses Lake Sunrise Rotary Club.

Rotarian Pete Erickson said the senior center previously used a 1988 Oldsmobile to deliver meals.

"We can get meals to people (now), because our vehicles have been breaking down," said Moses Lake Senior Center General Manager Carry Liles.

Liles said the 2006 Ford Threestar van is larger and more reliable than the senior center's old vehicle. In addition, customers can recognize the vehicle because of its markings.

"It's totally awesome," said Moses Lake Senior Center Board President Mary Kile. "This is a phenomenal gift."

Discovery Ford and Honda co-Owner Jacie Daschel said the dealership purchased a warranty on the vehicle and is doing maintenance for the first year.

Moses Lake Rotary President Jim Sperry said the rotary looks to supports projects where there is a need, and the senior center had a need.

Liles said the senior center serves 1,600 meals per month in locations including Odessa, Ephrata, Warden, Moses Lake, Beverly, Othello and Royal City.
