Marsh, Santiago carry Chiefs runners to win
Royal's Jimenez blows away field at Moses Lake Invite
MOSES LAKE - Jeff Marsh, Ari Santiago and Daniel Jenkins all ran top-10 times on Saturday as the Moses Lake Chiefs boys cross country team won the Moses Lake Invite at Blue Heron Park.
Marsh ran a fourth-place time of 17 minutes, 35 seconds, while Santiago took sixth in 17:52 and Jenkins was 10th at 18:07 on the 3.1-mile course. The Chiefs scored 47 points, eight points better than second-place Pasco (55).
"We were very excited since it has been five years since we won our home invite," Moses Lake head coach Jen Carpenter said.
Other varsity results for Moses Lake included senior Nick McAlavy (11th in 18:28), senior Skyler Hoffer (16th in 18:49), senior Steffen Klepsch (26th in 19:21) and freshman Tanner Grigg (38th in 19:55).
Royal High School senior Rigoberto Jimenez was first overall in the 12-team, 85-runner boys race at 16:21. Teammate Ethan Tonnemaker, a freshman, was second in 17:28 as the Knights placed third in the team standings with 59 points. Senior Luke Tonnemaker was also in the top 10, taking seventh at 17:55.
Other results for Royal included senior Rodrigo Montoya (22nd in 19:03), sophomore Roy Angel (27th in 19:22), senior Whitney Christensen (49th in 20:20) and senior David Floren (57th in 20:27).
Ephrata was fifth with 122 points. Sophomore Eddie Pineda ran the Tigers' top time, finishing 15th in 18:40. Freshman Quinton Hendrickson (18th in 18:52), senior Kort Laughlin (25th in 19:19), freshman Stephen Monda (29th in 19:31), sophomore Jesse Hector (36th in 19:51), sophomore Ian Westrope (59th in 20:33) and junior Andy Plank (62nd in 20:33) rounded out Ephrata's competitors.
Quincy was ninth in the team standings with 204 points, while Othello was 12th at 298. Freshman Ben Horning ran Quincy's top time at 19:00, good for 19th. Othello junior Tyson Alvarez was the Huskies' top finisher, 44th in 20:08. Warden, which fielded an incomplete squad, got a 33rd-place time of 19:40 from senior Marty Gardinier.
