St. George's 2, Moses Lake Christian 0
MOSES LAKE - The boys from Moses Lake Christian Academy were shut out for just the second time in their last 23 matches, falling 2-0 to St. George's of Spokane last Thursday.
The Lions, who went 20-1 last season en route to a third-place finish at the state championships, lost a big chunk of their leadership to graduation. Head coach Scott McCornack cited that as a reason for his team's struggles with the Dragons.
"You generally can't graduate nearly your entire defense, including your goalkeeper, without some sort of rebuilding program," McCornack said via e-mail. "We will adjust. That's the beauty of high school sports - we all must play the hand we are dealt, and the best teams are those who adjust first."
The Lions opened the season on Sept. 8 with a 2-1 victory over the Tacoma Baptist Crusaders. Taylor Webb and Kameron Firouzi scored for the Lions.
Moses Lake Christian travels to Sunnyside Christian on Tuesday, a 4 p.m. start.
