Charles August Neumann
Charles August Neumann, a longtime Moses Lake resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007. His passing came quite suddenly.
Charles, also known as Charley and Chuck, was born April 10, 1935, in Walla Walla to Elmer Henry Neumann and Thelma Viola (Ostrom) Neumann. The family moved to Rock Island, Wash., in 1945 and Charles attended the Rock Island Grade School. In 1953 he graduated from Wenatchee High School. He went on to study engineering at Washington State College (WSU), and graduated with that degree in 1957. While at Washington State he joined ROTC which led to 30 years in the Army Reserve at Wenatchee and Fort Lewis retiring as a Lt. Col.
After college, Charles was employed by Boeing and then The Bureau of Reclamation, working in Warden, Ephrata, and Othello, serving as a drainage engineer. He was very active in The Light and Life Free Methodist Church where he served on the board, taught classes, cleaned the church, did budding projects and for many years served as the church delegate to the conference. After retirement he became active in the Moses Lake South
Campus Athletic Club where he made many new friends.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife for 47 years, Mary, his children and their spouses and grandchildren: Bob Neumann, Lake Ariel, Pa., his wife Tammy and two children Brandon and Karley; Alan Neumann, Newberg, Ore., his wife Pam and three children Tiffany, Preston, and Hanna; Kelly Neumann, Pasco, his wife Leah and three children Emma, Elijha, and Benjamin; Thomas Neumann, San Diego, Calif., and our granddog Buddy; and Martha Neumann, Bothell, Wash., and her daughter Kassi. Also, his sister Barbara and husband Glen Golden of East Wenatchee. Many nieces and nephews. Charley was preceded in death by daughter Mary Clarinda and Baby son Chris, his parents and brother, David Neumann.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home, 5th and Division, in Moses Lake. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at The Light and Life Free Methodist Church, 935 W. Valley Road,
Moses Lake. There will be a Military Burial Service Sunday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m. at the Ephrata cemetery on the corner of 3rd S.W. and E St. S.W.
