Warden soccer blanks Granger

GRANGER - Barbara Horta scored a pair of first-half goals as the Warden Cougars opened South Central Athletic Conference girls soccer action Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over the Granger Spartans.

Horta scored in the fifth and 17th minutes to give Warden a 2-0 halftime lead. Leslie Estrada rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 75th minute.

Warden had 17 shots on goal to Granger's three. Evelyn Martinez made two saves for the Cougars and Brenda Padilla had eight stops for the Spartans.

Warden hosts Naches Valley Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Eisenhower 2, Moses Lake 1

YAKIMA - Sydney Kimbro scored in the 63rd minute for Moses Lake, but the Chiefs eventually lost in a shootout to the Eisenhower Cadets in Columbia Basin League action.

Kimbro's goal tied the score at 1, and the teams played two scoreless periods overtime. Kimbro and Megan Frederick scored for Moses Lake in the shootout, but Eisenhower won it 4-2.

Both teams recorded nine shots on goal. Chiefs goalkeeper Kelly Sutherland had five saves.

Moses Lake returns home to Lions Field on Saturday, hosting Wenatchee at 1 p.m.

Volleyball

Royal 3, Kiona-Benton 1

BENTON CITY - The Royal Knights began their SCAC campaign Tuesday night with a 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-11 road victory over the Kiona-Benton Bears.

Stephanie Bartlett led Royal with 19 kills and Kelcy Jansen added 11 kills. Janae Anderson contributed seven kills, 24 assists and one block, while Leslie Brown had five kills, 11 assists and two blocks.

Royal has its home opener Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the Connell Eagles.

Wilson Creek 3, Easton 0

WILSON CREEK - The Devils had no trouble with the visiting Easton Jaguars, winning 25-11, 25-11, 25-6 on Tuesday night.

Ksenja Fredere had a super all-around game to lead Wilson Creek, going 20 for 22 from the serving line with 11 aces. She also added nine kills.

Jackie Treat added six kills, a 12 for 12 serving effort and two aces for the Devils. Tiffany Friend had 14 assists and three kills.

Wilson Creek plays at Thorp on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Connell 3, Warden 1

CONNELL - Warden won the first game of its SCAC contest at Connell Tuesday night, but the Eagles rallied to win the final three games and the match, 22-25, 25-8, 25-14, 25-16.

Katherine Martin went 11 for 11 at the serving line and had five perfect passes to lead the Cougars. Cassandra Kisler was also 11 for 11 serving with 10 digs. Kelsey Garner chipped in six kills and nine digs, while Brandi Kisler had three kills and two blocks.

Warden looks to even its league mark Thursday when it hosts River View at 5:30 p.m.
