Ephrata volleyball derailed by Selah

EPHRATA - Britney Ratigan had six kills and nine digs, but it wasn't enough to save the Ephrata Tigers from a three-game sweep at the hands of defending 2A state champion Selah Thursday night.

The Vikings stormed into Ephrata and won handily, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20. The match was the opener for both teams in the Central Washington Athletic Conference slate.

Other leaders for Ephrata included Breane Duff with seven assists and five digs, Brianna Moser with five kills and two blocks, and Greer Monson with three blocks.

The Tigers travel to Yakima this weekend for the SunDome Volleyball Festival. Their next CWAC match is next Tuesday at Quincy, a 7 p.m. tip.

Ellensburg 3, Quincy 0

ELLENSBURG - The Quincy Lady Jackrabbits opened their CWAC schedule with a 25-9, 25-6, 25-16 setback to the Ellensburg Bulldogs, a state trophy-winning team from 2006.

Quincy setter Amanda Brindle had a solid all-around game with five assists, one kill and one ace. She was 24 for 24 setting the ball and 7 of 7 serving. Rachel Tobin had five blocks, two kills and was 3 for 3 serving. Taylor Kunkel went 8 for 8 at the service line and added four assists, one kill and two blocks.

The Lady Jacks host rival Ephrata next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Othello 3, Connell 1

OTHELLO - In an exciting non-league match before a packed house at Othello's gym, the host Huskies earned a hard-fought, four-game win over the visiting Eagles Thursday night.

Othello got the win, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 27-25, behind several key performances. Allison Walker had a team-best 15 kills and 17 digs while serving 17 for 19. Kylee Mollotte shut down the Eagles' offense in the middle, contributing eight kills and a pair of blocks.

Justin Villareal had seven kills and 18 assists for Othello. Teammates Kayla Dickson (13 assists, 18 for 19 serving) and Priscilla Cantue (five kills, 16 of 16 serving) also had great nights.

The Huskies are also going to the SunDome Festival this weekend before traveling to Selah next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Wilson Creek 3, Soap Lake 1

SOAP LAKE - The visiting Devils overwhelmed their nearby rivals Thursday night, winning 25-11, 26-28, 25-12, 25-22.

Wilson Creek had several star performances. Ksenja Fredere had a team-high 14 kills to go along with nine aces and four blocks. She was 17 for 18 at the serving line. Holly Wilson added seven kills and three blocks. Devils head coach Mike Ottis also praised Jackie Treat for her overall performance, as she chipped in five kills, a 12 for 12 serving effort and solid on-court leadership.

Wilson Creek plays again next Tuesday, hosting Easton at 5:30 p.m. The Devils' match at Thorp, originally scheduled for next Tuesday, has been pushed back to Monday, Sept. 17.

Columbia-Burbank 3, Lind-Ritzville 1

RITZVILLE - Danielle Sackman contributed 23 digs to the Broncos' cause, but they couldn't overcome the 41 combined kills of Burbank's Ashlee Holst and Brianna Smith in a four-game loss Thursday night.

The visiting Coyotes took the non-league match 25-16, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22. Lind-Ritzville's Laura Cain had eight kills and four aces, with teammates Heather Hunt (20 assists) and Devin Killian (11 blocks) also turning in good numbers.

Burbank's Carly Lundgren had 20 assists and Caitlin Dexter went 22 for 22 from the service line.
